Beginning Saturday, July 20 at 7 pm, Q2 Music at the Proms kicks off with a program featuring the music of two centenarians: Benjamin Britten, born on November 22, 1913 in Lowestoft, United Kingdom; and Witold Lutoslawski, born on January 25, 1913 in Warsaw, Poland.
With the BBC Symphony Orchestra led by conductor-composer Thomas Adès, the evening concludes with the world premiere of Adès's Totentanz (Dance of the Dead), written in memory of the vastly influential Polish composer.
This program features soloists including cellist Paul Watkins, mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn and baritone Simon Keenlyside.
